Good Practices Competition 2012

Mahideb Jubo Somaj Kallayan Somity (MJSKS) has awarded on Good Practices Competition 2012 to ''Stop Violence against Women now''. This award provided by the Department of Women Affairs the Ministry of Women & Children Affairs, the People's Republic of Bangladesh and UNFPA, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Five organizations has received the award like- BRAC Dhaka; Women Support Center, Bhola; Mahideb Jubo Somaj Kallayan Somity (MJSKS), Kurigram; Protigga Parishad, Comilla; RDRS , Rangpur; Women Support Center, Cox's Bazer has awarded.

Good Practices:

MJSKS formed different levels of groups and committees; where the local Government and the local elite are included along with the beneficiaries. MJSKS organize different kinds of trainings, meetings, orientations, education sessions and door to door visit on women rights issues and family law among the beneficiaries and stockholders to increase their knowledge about women discrimination in food intact, education, health facilities, clothing etc. MJSKS organize an innovative event, like "Denmohor Parishod Mela", which published in most of the national news paper and electronic Medias, an agreement which is jointly signed by the UP Chairman and the Kazi with the counter signed of the Upazilla Chairman, the UNO and the Officer in-charge of Police, Ulipur Thana. They are also participating in meetings, seminars and rallies, social programs and they are linked with various service providers.

The committee is ensuring women rights, establishing fair judgment through "Shalish" and social pressure, which reduces harassment and violation of women rights in the area. Therefore, beneficiaries are economically benefited by save money from court cases, treatment and shelter facilities, maintenances expense and loss of labor.

A justice system is functioning with the Para, Watch and NNPC committee as well as the community. So, gradually the local justice system is functioning in the working area. Victims receive support from the society/committee regarding issues of illegal divorce, "Hilla" marriage prevention, marriage without dowry, dower money collection, prevention of early marriage, physical torture, conflict between husband and wife, family conflict, eve-teasing, sexual harassment, recover maintenance etc. Court cases are reducing in the project area as the committees are activated and serve the community independently. Discrimination has reduced from 3000 beneficiary households gradually. The enrolment of adolescent girls for higher education in targeted families is increasing.
