Roshna's Story

Roshna lives in a small dwelling together with her husband in the village of Panthapara under Omor Majid UP of Rajarhat Upazila (sub-district) under Kurigram district. They have one son and one daughter and overcame a grievous life. In 2010 Roshna got selected as a beneficiary of the MJSKS-Strengthen-UP-Project fulfilling the beneficiary selection criteria. She had no earning source to maintain her family smoothly and there has not been living facilities in her house. The surrounding of the house was poor and the family had to live a life without dignity. Her husband was a day laborer and the average family income was only around 13 Taka. After becoming member of the group called Munshipara development society organized by the MJSKS-Strengthen Up Project, Roshna got 1 cow, 2 goats, 6 ducks, 10 hens, 2 plants of mango & lemon and different types of vegetables seeds. Within a very short time she had planted and grown the vegetables, and started to rear the animals. The results are a fruitful and rich livestock and vegetable garden - which was possible because of the family's hard labor and efforts and intensive care for the asset following the advices of the project staff. Now Roshna is the proud owner of 2 cows, 7 goats, 35 chicken and 26 ducks. Surroundings of her homestead and the roof of her house are covered by different types of vegetables. She installed a hygienic latrine and a tube-well for safe water. Her Daughter, Munni, is studying in school and her son passed the HSC examination (higher secondary school). Roshna build a 50' x 13' tin shed wall and roof on the house. And she gave an example, how one is able to overcome extreme poverty. Now Roshna maintains her family independently and feels happy living a life in dignity.
